Are there any titled players in Ghana?. I checked on the top rated players in Ghana on the FIDE website but did no see any titled player.

Looks like there's not, unless you count Candidate Master as a title. Perhaps it's the federation not submitting results properly or something like that. Are there any organised chess clubs or similar at all?

On a side note, the top rated active player (the CM) is 1904. Well, I'm rated higher than that. Shall I move to Ghana and play board 1 in the Olympiad for you Laughing

I guess people from Ghana have better things to do than play chess Laughing

how can you afford a PC if you are in ghana ? What is your job?:)

Avatar of adamplenty

We have people from poorer countries than Ghana here. And a PC isn't the only way to use this site.

The only CM in Ghana is no more. The problem of not having rated players in Ghana stem from the fact that we don't have FIDE arbiters to arbitrate our games for them to be recognised by FIDE for rating. On the other hand, we don't get the chance to play rated tournaments outside Ghana due to lack of sponsorships. These are the banes of Chess in Ghana.

I didn't know Ghana was a FIDE member?

Avatar of EXXTREME

Seriously something needs to be done about this.

I hope you are aware that I am the President of the Ghana Chess Association and I am happy to inform you that Ghana will be organising a FIDE rated tournament in Accra by June 2014 through the help of the Kasparov Chess Foundation Africa.

Be informed that we hosted GM Kasparov himself earlier this year in January.

Avatar of EXXTREME

That's great.... Team Captain chess is developing in the country during your reign.

Avatar of Nyameba

A rated tournament in June, that would be great!!!

Avatar of MrDamonSmith

& I'm coming over there just to win it & take the $3 prize home with me.

Avatar of MrDamonSmith

No, in all seriousness, it would be great for more chess tournaments to happen. Why not have them on a regular basis arkodadzie?
