You're not crazy.  I remember someone made a thread like this.

I remember it too. As a matter of fact, he said the exact same thing about the warden letting him have a chess set, chess books, etc. Is this Groundhog Day????

I remember it too. Maybe he's stuck in a time-loop?

I also remember the thread.

Forget the time loop.  Ever heard of "repeat felon"?

Not that I plan on going to prison anytime soon, but on the TV in the background they play it all the time. With the free time you'll have on your hands, you'll probably come out better than any of us here in the next ten or so.

All the best.

Tomorrow, I will start my first recreational activities during the normal time slot. In the courtyard, I will approach some of the inmates and challenge for games of chess. I will also look into organized tourneys. Today I just spent time with my chessboard and a few books that was given to me.

Wish me luck.

Be careful. If you lose, your opponant may demand money. If you can't pay, things may go rough for you. Don't expect fair play,or justice.Trust nobody. Good luck.

When did you come back?!

I am in my prison cell, I can't sleep. Today is going to be a long day. Breakfast at this prison starts at 7. I wonder what will be served since this is my first full day in this place.

I got a jacuzzi, and Kylie Minogue on Tuesdays.  I wanted twice a week, but it's tough here.

If you're interested in the subject then the following BBC Radio 4 interview may be worth checking out as at one point the topic moves onto chess in British prisons (overseas users may struggle to access the programme due to copyright issues, you'll have to find the workaround to that one yourself):

If I recall correctly he mentions it being a valued skill on the inside and being able to give lessons to the other inmates held some weight in currency and protection.

Some of the other episodes are also worth a listen. He interviews a range of people from chess players like Magnus Carlsen, Hou Yifan to sports stars such as lennox Lennox Lewis and politicians whilst playing them at chess.

Don't fall for the ol 'pick up the bishop' trick.
