Chess is not a sport! Chess is a sport!
There is no end to madness.
The affirmative camp keeps putting up weak arguments that make too many concessions to a heavily redacted dictionary.
The negative camp doggedly refuses to acknowledge the fluidity of the term sport, as defines in the Oxford English Dictionary, and they brush off all clear and deniable evidence that hundreds of organizations and millions of people across the globe consider chess a sport.
The have proven once again that American ethnocentrism trumpeted often enough and loud enough can dictate the conversation.

Chess is not a sport! Chess is a sport!
Lets give a my humble opinion.
I am a an ordinary chess player and I don't have any authority to say if it is or not a sport. I will base myself on what I could find on the internet.
From Quora, I got this, in italic:
All sports are games.
However, all games are not sports.
Chess is a game that can be played at a high level of competition.
However, no one that I know would consider chess a sport. Sport typically involves physical activity in addition to mental activity.
People can debate this for hours. However, in general, chess is not a sport.
Lets define chess:
Chess is a board game played between two players. (Wikipedia)
Chess is a game played by two people on a square board, in which each player has 16 pieces that can be moved on the board in different ways. (Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary)
Lets define sport:
Sport pertains to any form of competitive physical activity or game that aims to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participants and, in some cases, entertainment to spectators. (Wikipedia)
Sport is a game, competition, or activity needing physical effort and skill that is played or done according to rules, for enjoyment and/or as a job. (Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary).
According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), chess is not a sport, or it
would be included in the Olympic Games. This is my opinion only, I don't know the official IOC opinion about chess, I couldn't even find any IOC opinion about it, maybe it does not exist.
And now the conclusion:
1. Chess is not a sport.
2. a lot of people consider chess as a sport and want it to be included in the olympic games.

Your definition of sport misses many other ways the term is appropriately used. See https://www.oed.com/viewdictionaryentry/Entry/187476
Hence, your conclusion proceeds from an incomplete and inaccurate presupposition.
