It’s weird to think that organized competition, regular training, expensive coaches, and benefits from exercise puts a game on a level with monopoly.
I'd say that chess is the same as playing Monopoly.

At the beginner level (i.e., below 1200), chess is very much a roll of the dice.

Quite a read!
It’s a game.
You already said the exact same thing 3 days ago. And it's not relevant. As someone has said, most sports are games.

WRONG!
A "sport" is a team of people, or two individuals, on a field or court, playing against each other at the same time, with an offense and a defense. Chess is a great game, but it's not a sport. (Neither is golf.)
What about winter Olympic sports like skiing or ice skating? Or gymnastics, weightlifting, etc? Isn't playing video games in esports big business? I looked it up, the definition of sport is competition for entertainment with physical exertion and skill. It seems to me that the label is just marketing. You call something a sport to get the audience that you want to sell to.

From dictionary.com under the definition of sport.
noun 1.an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
The definition of sport includes the example of golf. Almost all definitions are very similar.
It will not be.
There is nothing to prevent the IOC from proclaiming certain activities as sports, nor is there anything to prevent them from including them in the Olympics. But it's been decades since the Olympics had non sporting events. I don't see that trend reversing any time soon.
At one time the Olympic Games included such things as poetry and music and architecture. But that doesn't mean they are sports.

I had to look that up. Sports are whatever marketing departments say they are. Most people would never call playing a video game a sport, but it gets called that if there's an audience and money to be made. They were specific about artistic competitions in the Olympics being art though.
