Chess manners

Always take a moment or to before resigning to compose yourself .

Relax it,s over, stop the clock smile and say well played.

Do this even if you are seething inside.

oh and only fart on your own clock time, that way you will not distract your opponent.

The wife thing was sweet.

Everyone's opinions on manners seem to be about the same. The only reason I was wondering was because I've heard of interesting tales about some chess players that've lost and thrown tantrums. Nice to see everyone takes it as mature as possible.

I began teaching my wife to play chess about three months ago.  She really enjoys it.  I do buy her flowers and open the car door for her and push the chair up to the table for her at restaurants, but usually I do not stand up when she comes to the kitchen table to play chess. She would no doubt wonder if there was something wrong with me.  Besides that, sometimes she sits down before I do.  In that case: Problem solved.

The #1 wife.

"I have the best wife in England. Can you believe that? THE BEST WIFE IN ENGLAND!

(I keep the other one in France.)"

(For more tips on how to treat wives, refer to fine-fine-fine-you-win-erikmixing-wives-or-girlfriends-with-chess2sportsmanship-in-chess).

For decades my uncle has referred to my aunt, still his current (and only) wife, as "my first wife".  Cool

My father was wont to say: "I never kissed my wife before we were married".

In competative play or if playing a stranger I agree with Tryst,

Shake hands, sit down, play a game, shake hands

If playing friends, talking smack is fun (if you win, lol jk).  I don't suggest this for everyone though, I'm not teasing but some sensative people play chess and take this game to the HEART.  If I was playing a friend like that ... I'd probably just shut up and try not to make any gestures that could be taken as unpolite (and pray I win because poor sports are the most enjoyable to beat Cool).  lol.
