What I want to talk about here is bringing money in to chess.

I often here when you offer someone to play a game for $ , they are often shocked and saying no no we don't play for money or no no we don't have any money and we are taking here about 5$,10,20 dollars small monet, BUT same person same circumstances you offer him play poker or any other card game , now suddenly he has the money 100, 200$ dollars more and suddenly he play for money too. Sa me as casinos.

The only reason people prefer to go casinos and play cards, such as poker is because it brings more money , where's chess no money involved,so government intentionally wants us to gamble instead of creating a business interests among chess adults.

I mean think about it when someone looses 100 dollars to a casino and learns nothing or to a chess game and willing to improve afterwards.Which is better?

The only reason people afraid to play chess for money and that's the only reason is that government makes it unpopular in our society, such as a kids game etc...

I know in America a lot of people playing chess for money in the different places, such as makers, windy, anywhere basically, but rest of the world nor so much which is sad.

Chess gone from politics, then the popularity , then the money ....

I'd rather keep chess innocent. Even if this sounds naive.

I want to see everyone playing chess for money on the streets, cafes, apartments, hotels etc... like in Indonesia or America. I want to see excitement, trash talks, audience, fights, people making bets etc.. so no one can say that sport is boring. If that happens more people will play this game and new young leds will follow.

Like in Thailand young kids grow up and all they want to do is fight when they grow up! Why ? Because it's culture sure, but most importantly to get out of poverty, as fights bring them $ and can feed their families. Wouldn't it be better if they were growing up dreaming about becoming GM'S and feeding their family ? It's just a row example but you got me.

Chess is a sport and in my opinion and when you invest alot of time in to it professional or you are or not it should bring you the cash no matter what, especially it's based on skills so it's not a stupid gamble where you throw a dice and hope god that you don't loose your last money and can't feed your family , it motivates you to improve to be better and then your hard work awarded.

So many members here under 1200 novices, how nice it would be for them to walk outside and play a real game , for money yes obviously, their would be many players and they would choose someone 1300, 1400 sure they would loose couple of dollars , BUT what it does it motivates them dramatically fast to improve. They would look at those 1300, 1400 hundreds as their idols and want it to be just like them , so I'm sure when they lost some money they wouldn't be sitting here asking staff like how to be a GM or can I be a GM they simply wouldn't have time for that , they would be here studying their assess off to get better no metter what

Playing for money just encourages cheating. Look at titled Tuesday for example.

Every one plays chess for $ in Indonesia,Philippines,America and like in any sport sometime their will be cheating.

People who want everyone to play for cash on the streets usually imagine themselves getting rich by crushing a bunch of weak patzers and taking their pocket money.  What would actually happen is that a pack of starving IMs and FMs would come by and have the shirt off your back.

Come on man don't be so naive groups are big people are everywhere , sure they will be masters now and then , but sometimes they will teach and noobs prefer that, and playing their will be another stronger pool of players playing high bets.

Your logic is so ........... Look at Indonesia, Bali in particular EVERY single person plays chess there for $$$.

Look at Washington,NYC same story.

Don't worry about masters sooner or later group will separate automatically to a noobs with low bets and confident title players with high bets

That sentence is only logical if you assume everyone wants to gamble for money.  Additionally, I have rich relatives who live near the casinos in the Pennsylvania Pocanos and they play the quarter slots and show up on the $1 hamburger days. Not everyone gambles $100 or $200. That's why my relatives are still rich.

The World Open is a form of legalized chess-gambling.  A half dozen times I've put down my "stake" of $300 and competed with 200 other U2000 players for the $25000+ prizes in my section.  But chess is stressful enough, let alone playing a game where a loss could cost you thousands of dollars.  That's why, in the Open section of the World Open, you see 8-way ties for first place, as even the very best players agree to 10 move draws rather than risk falling out of the money.

First of all please don't mistake chess and gamble, you can't gamble in chess ! Gamble involves LUCK and theirs none just skills .

I'm not talking about big money bets it's not what I want to say.

What I want is people start playing this game , putting there time in to it and get awarded 50cent a dollar doesn't matter.

MickinMD you saying your relatives occasionally playing in casino small bets and that's why they stay rich. Let me ask you something what did they accomplished during so much time spend there? Exactly NOTHING! sure they got good emotions, good time etc.... but wouldn't it better if every week instead of going to casino and putting a dollar there going on the streets or some chess cafes playing a game having even more of an adrenaline rush and giving a dollar there , wouldn't it be better? How long have they been playing casino? Probably most of their live , if they had just 1 game every time they went to casino during a long period of time the would probably be already a strong masters and people who they would loose money would benefit of it as well much better then casinos.
