Also OP, if youre a piece up (knight/bishop/rook) just start trading. Nothing good ever came of me not trading in those situations. I think they call this simplifying

Hey people of chess I'm new and I want to know the best way to get better also any tips & tricks??
-Learn opening principles and a simple opening (I recommend Scotch, Italian with Fried Liver Attack and Traxler Counterattack, London System, King's Indian Attack)
-Learn simple checkmates (scholars mate, knight/bishop/rook defended queen mates, back rank mates)
-Learn basic tactics (discovered attacks/checks, forks, skewers, pins)
-Learn basic endgames (pawn vs king, rook/queen ladder, odds)
From here, with this info, you should be able to connect different tactics as you go, and maybe learn a few more openings. With all of the things I mentioned, you should be able to reach 1000. Best of luck?
