it is piece name + file name + rank name if it is a pawn move then file name + rank name only, because the pawns are not named.

e4 = pawn in the e file goes to the 4th spot in the e rile

if it doesnt have any letter in front, like e5 for example, it's a pawn move.
it's pretty simple, just write down what you moved. if you moved your queen to the a7 square, then you would write down '' Qa7"
if you take a piece write an ''x'', like , then '' Qxa7"

What the heck does aa8 mean?
Probably 2 rooks can go to the a8 square & it's just pointing out that it's the one on the a file. Similar to 2 knights being able to go to d7 (ones on f6 & the others on b8) it'll point out Nfd7 for instance showing it's the one on f6 that's moving there.
learn descriptive notation as well. it will open up about 200 years worth of books to read.
