When I have White, I win because I am White; when I have Black, I win because I am Bogolyubov. - Efim Bogolyubov
Chess Quotes
Here is the best chess quote ever for chess and life:
"The student can learn more in 10 hours of properly tutored instruction than in 10 years of trial and error".
Emanuel Lasker [from The Chess Companion by Irving Chernev]
I read that quote in a list of quotes in the book by Chernev. I'd love to know exactly where Emanuel Lasker wrote or said that. I have enough faith in Chernev that it is correct. But I have looked for its exact origin and haven't had success.
Fantastic quote though I agree! One that you would stick on your office door, school locker etc
“When you see a good move, look for a better one”
(Emanuel Lasker)
“Nothing excites jaded Grandmasters more than a theoretical novelty”
(Dominic Lawson)
“The Pin is mightier than the sword”
(Fred Reinfeld)
“We cannot resist the fascination of sacrifice, since a passion for
sacrifices is part of a Chessplayer’s nature”
(Rudolf Spielman)
“All I want to do, ever, is just play Chess”
(Bobby Fischer)
“A win by an unsound combination, however showy,
fills me with artistic horror”
(Wilhelm Steinitz)
