Thats definitely happened to me before, and it usually happes after playing well. I just get on autopilot, assuming victories will just keep coming, and then once I get that attitude, I get smashed. Luckily that hasn't happened in awhile. I just realized I wasn't focusing enough.
chess rating dive?
Ahh yes, reasons, I find them overrated. Obscure astrological signs/events are the most likely culprits. However, now, I'm simply frustrated. Jason, you're probably right. In fact, I'm almost positive you are. But for the record, I favor Ben's argument.
Rating is a curve, not a staircase. Drops of 100 "points" or more are not uncommon during a rating adjustment period, but you likely did not change position. The best way to see where you are is to watch your rank and percentile, since these are "hard numbers" and not subject to adjustment.
Your rating is an estimate anyways, since no one can play an infinite amount of games. Once your RD gets pretty low, you can guess it fairly close, but no one knows what the true rating in your head really is.
Anybody else have their chess rating drop like 100 points in a few days? Like the region of the brain dedicated to chess developed a tumor or possibly just died?
