Chess Rating vs. G.P.A.

oh blah blah blah, of course trying to draw a one-to-one correlation is problematic, but if somebody's looking for data, why get in the way?
Undergrad GPA: 3.86, 3.96 departmental (meaning in my major).
Gradschool GPA :4.0
chess rating: an inflated 1675 or so, that you may want to count as a 1550.

Hmmmm, not many people can follow instructions... ^^
High school GPA (and early enrollment into college): 3.96
University GPA - (2nd year undergraduate biomedical engineering): 3.81
Rating: 1700-1800 (Current = 1767)
KF1, I'd also suggest you find your information elsewhere like in the live chess here... ask each individual there so you can obtain a wide spectrum of players with various chess ratings (Record their names so you don't get repeats). This may reduce the bias in your sample that you record from since those with -good GPA and good corresponding rating- will be more likely to post.
Good luck finding out if there's a correlation or not! Make sure you use good statistical analyses.

high school gpa - 89
undergrad gpa - 3.4
grad gpa - 3.0
chess rating - 1350 (but i've lost to sub-12's and beaten 1600s). I'm pretty moody.
I have a friend that has his Ph.D in Math, is a Dive master, has an IQ of at least 140+ and compliments all of this with a 1200+ chess rating!
A high IQ in itself is nothing more than an ability to break down, simplify and connect an array of previously disconcerted variables and it can be accomplished by a simple salient technique perhaps, a great many of you have heard of it ? In a word, ORGANIZATION! Some of us are much better at it than others. The more organized your thoughts the more intelligent you are, end of story! I know what you are thinking now, you will give me some instances of the opposite to be true of course, but what you don't understand is that some of these types are so beautifully organized their own physical world is merely a bother or hinderance. Many profoundly gifted people don't bathe or groom themselves simply because it isn't a priority for them. And they view most of humanity like the creature they are; insects! Ones that hit their windshield needing to be promptly wiped and cleanzed. Many become hermits for this, severely agrophobic and depressive from the abject obtusiveness of mankind.
These kinds of people may or may not be great at chess it has to do with what inspires them. Inspiration guides creativity and brilliance without it we are souless and zombie like. So I guess what I am getting to with all of this is it doesn't take a Genius to be a Grandmaster, 4.0 GPA student, President of the USA... it just takes a will and an inspiration to do so.

3.8 GPA in highschool.
Chess.com rating: 1450
been studing and playing chess bout 4 or so monthes (my rating is about to go up though, i think i have a 1700 player in a game im playing right now)
And like others have said, you have to try to get a GPA. I was pulling a 1.5 first semester freshman year. Lol its more of a haze when i think about it if u no what i mean =P. Took me a bit to get motivated.

You may have a little problem there, since educational systems are organized differently around the world so comparing GPA from one country to another is dubious.
But anyway:
Elementary scholl (grade 1-8): 4.4
High scholl (grade 1-4): 4.3
Comunity college (6 semesters): 3.3
Chess.com rating: 1604
The drop in my GPA in college was due to lack of motivation, since completing college with 5.0 gets you the same as completing it with 2.0, while before that I needed high GPA's to get into a good scholl.

croatia.
This seems a little bit similar to the I.Q. post. At least I remember my GPA.
GPA 3.7. Chemical engineering. U.C. Santa Barbara
Rating 1380. Chess.com. On a steep slope, so far. Been playing & studying seriously for 5 months. If I can get to middle 1600s in another 7 months in correspondence chess, analysis board, no reference materials, I'll be thrilled.
Edit: My GPA woudn't be as high in:
Law (I'm a slow reader)
Medicine (I have low memorization skills)
