Chess set no extra queens !?

I looked at a nice chess set 4 inch king , heavy pieces and all that every thing is nice , but one thing is bothering me. It comes only with 32 pieces NO extra queens!!! I called them and they said they don't do extra queens anymore for some reason.

It's really hard to find any chess sets in Moscow as they don't have many literally couple and I chose the best pieces , it cost around 100$, mostly I will play just at home, but also for analysis and rapid games.

So I don't know what to do as I don't have any alternative other pieces only comes with 3.75 inch king and most of them don't have extra queens as well .

Do you think it's a big deal? It's quite bothering me

First and second pic thx

 Yeah, insanely huge problem.

Just use another thing as the queen and that's it.

I remember the upside down rook made a good queen, but extra queens would be nice with an expensive set.

turn rooks upside down or turn a taken piece on it's side

Better don't try this in an official rated game!

Using something else as your extra queen just looks ugly on the board. Also, why only one extra queen? I often promoted more than one queen, every set should actually have eight white extra queens and eight black extra queens, as well as eight white extra bishops, eight black extra bishops, eight white extra knights, eight black extra nights, eight white extra rooks and eight black extra rooks. Only a set that has all these pieces included is a set worth buying. Everything else is just a rip-off.

Manoel that would be unnecessary :P

8 queens is 33% more pieces. And around double the wood/plastic/stone used to make the set

And 16 extra Queens plus a few extra Kings, Knights, Bishops and pawns, in case you lose some, adds up to about 60 or 70 pieces - I'll need a small cupboard to put them in.

I need a serious advice or a thought here.

100$ pieces are not cheap

What percentage of games actually requires two queens of the same color?  I agree it is preferable to have the extra queens but using an alternative piece once in a while is not that big a deal.  You could even take a queen from another similar set.  Also you said that "It's really hard to find any chess sets in Moscow".  I have never been to Russia but somehow this seems highly unlikely.  Perhaps you are looking in the wrong places.

Welcome to Russia

It's no big deal - forget about it. How many games does a player have 2 Queens on the board anyway? Very few. And not for many moves, because the game soon ends.

OP is right, but it is even a more serious deal. What if you still have both rooks but need to promote to another one in order to avoid stalemate? My suggestion would be to purchase at least two sets per board.

Just use a Mr. Potatoe-head or some other inanimate object for a queen...Hamsters don't work.

I got a checkers set at home and I wrote the first letter of each kind of chess piece on them (a piece with a B is an bishop, Q queen....). Easy to use them and if you ever want to play checkers you can turn them upside down so you don't see the letters :)

For centuries chess sets came with only one queen per side. Why is this an issue now? If you like the set, buy it.
