No, but you can leave voluntarily.

LOL! These people aren't serious. Nobody who thinks in such elitist terms would be daft enough to come out and say it.
I did not mean elitist as "only GMs should play chess". My point is that we should not try to attract mediocre people with no intellectual interests to chess.
I see. What about those people who like the company and sense of belonging to a chess club? Shall we ruthlessly root them out? do you have a specific rating floor in mind?
Expelling players with a rating lower than a certain number is not the correct method to clean the game from mediocre people, as we would be rooting out some beginners with real talent. Having a low rating for a long time is a more accurate sign of mediocrity.
Hmmm I would nor care so much as long as they were well dressed.
This reminds me of a chess-club I was in 30 something years ago. Half the people there were unemployed, including myself at the time. We were playing in a cup match, at 'home' against a team miles above us. I remember the looks on their teams faces as they entered our rented premises, one in particular, in a three piece suit and immaculately groomed..
It turned out that he was their 'board 1' and he was paired with our youngest player who was about 14; small in stature, school uniform and nat health glasses. The posh fella sat there reading the FT while the opening moves were being made with a look of arrogance written across his gob.
I got lucky in my game, my opponent blundered and resigned shortly afterwards. I then glanced at the next table to see how our Board 1 was getting against 'the suit'. The 14 yr old was swinging backwards and forwards on his chair while the FT expert now looked very different. His tie was undone, his hair ruffled, his glasses skewed across his face and he was sweating and mumbling to himself; he lost the game! We won the match.
Now I know that this doesn't really prove anything, but shows that arrogance and elitism can be the undoing of those that display these 'attributes'. It also proves that just because an individual, or team may be 'better on paper' they can still be on the wrong end of a good at*se kicking. Normally, a good game of chess is appreciated by all the players, regardless of result. Handshakes are normal and no ill feeling towards each other. However, as the posh team left the building they must surely have been able to hear our loud laughter! The best thing to do with arrogance and elitism I think; just laugh at em.
The chessboard does not care for arrogance, fine cut Italian suits, the latest share index or from whence a player hails, all it cares about is the march of logic.

Such a brilliant and funny story. Chess is joyous and universal, to say that it should be limited to 'the elite' ruins that.
Go play snakes and ladders with mummy!
Chess is a fun game! You don't have to be a genius or deep thinker to play blitz! Even weak players can enjoy chess by playing at their own level. There's always someone stupider than you who you can lord it over! I think the OP is not a bright person that's why he's an elitist. He's afraid of honest competition. I have the solution for him, come to my chess club, there are plenty of stupid people there.

I would like to tear apart your arguments, but I could not find them. I just see a pathetic attempt of an adhominen and more worshipping of mediocrity.
Chess is not a fun game. You sit in a chair and torture yourself over the fate of pawns and pieces that mean nothing. Chess is excruciating.

And that is just one of the many reasons why chess should not be played by weak minds, they are not able to deal with that kind of situation.
I l0v tr0ls f0rums vecause i am troll t00.
And here comes, as expected, the supposedly funny user who not even his mother thinks he is funny. People like you have nothing to do with their lives, I do not even know what you are doing here. You are the living proof as for why we should not try to attract weak minds to chess.

Definitely Beatles!
if it was a elitist game then nobody would play it
because elite people have better things to do than play chess
like make money and build wealthy
