Human ingenuity can ward off these things for a while... that allows problems to get bigger before coming to a head (on a grander scale).

Water can be removed from the ocean with a teaspoon - but the ocean won't get emptied that way.

When a population doesn't balance, nature balances it. That's a heartless way to look at it.

Nek, inbetween your chess games read 'Countdown' by Alan Weisman.

This one should get you thinking about everything you don't want to think about.

Thanks for the tip.

Maybe chess players are just too intelligent in general to entertain the idea that playing chess has anything to do with world hunger.

You ran a marathon.... so what, how is that connected with world hunger?

You went swimming in the ice cold... great, so now what are you going to do to help the needy?

I sympathize with people not knowing what to do to help others, throwing idiot pieces of paper (money) probably has little/no long-term effect either, but as god is my witness running isn't going to help anyone anywhere, that's just logic.

You are a an ignorant and uneducated troll. You sound like you've read stuff on some radical communist internet pages or possibly been brainwashed by this marxist type garbage in person. You also sound like a troll because you're stating your pseudo intellectual view of the world which don't address the original topic in the slightest.

I have to agree with you. Earlier I made a post where I expressed skepticism about organized charity, and I still stick to that position.
If you're an individual who can assist others you have a sort of ethical responsiblity to. I can say I am reasonably angry at what some others have wrote: "Well, uh, we cannot rid the entire world of hunger, therefore we should not help a single hungry person."
That's just an excuse to avoid helping anyone.

On the contrary, it is quite obvious you've never seen a book in your life, Saver of the Internet, Saviour of the West.

Why do you pop up when someone mentions capitalism and such? Scared of losing your dollars?

I don't think there is any evidence that people who are capable in chess are more intelligent than others in other fields. I don't mean to criticize chess as a game itself. It is fun. But the common claim that chess players are more intelligent, or that chess makes kids smarter , in my opinion, is a myth perpetuated by people who play chess to feel better about themselves.

good point. Why is it so hard to help a single family, for instance? I'm sure when you look in how to stop hunger as a whole it seems pretty far fetched. The truth is all it takes is for everyone to contribute just a small portion. I'm in no position to really offer much, but I do what I can contribute. its those greedy corporate a holes who don't lift a finger unless they can write it off on their taxes.
