That's really great to hear that the game has been such a positive influence in your life! I've heard of those programs too, and they're wonderful, both for spreading the game and (mainly) for the rehabilitative promise they bring to people with troubled lives.

My name is Anton and I am fairly new to this glorious game of chess. I was introduced to the game by my grandfather when i was a wee boy but soon lost interest after elementary school. I've always had an addictive personality and had to learn things the hard way....... to may a long story short, I've had an extensive history of heroin and alcohol abuse. I've lost a lot and bounced around between jails, institutions, rehabs and being homeless. I finally got clean back in the summer of 2011 and by some miracle found this game in 2016 and it has done more for my recovery then any AA meetings or self help programs ever had! I did some research and found that certain jails have instituted a chess program in their facilities with fantastic results. Repeat offenders began to drop off and learn common ideas like...thinking before you move, time management, decision making skills through chess. I was wondering if anyone else has found that this game has facilitated them in a similar way. Thanks for your time and thanks for being here 24/7 always willing to play a quick game with me.
