I find ChessBase products vital, but I always give a new version at least a year. Like Microsoft, everything they release is buggy.
Chessbase 17 problems (Tablebases)

@KevinOSh I analyze using Scid for a while now. I also have Chessbase installed, and aside of the more polished GUI, in my opinion it doesnt provide anything I would need to do chess research and build my repertoire. I usually use Scid, as it filters the game list faster. Screenshot of my setup:
If you want to buy a a chess database software, also consider Chess Assistant, which I have not tested.

FYI, Tablebases are 100% free, thanks to a chinese business man Bojun Guo (aka noobpwnftw) , who is also the main donor/sponsor in donating CPU/GPU power for billions of testing games for Stockfish and Leela.

Just following up that I did receive a response from Chessbase that they are aware of the issue, and it will be resolved in an upcoming update. It has been reported by multiple users.

With the latest update (7) part of the problem has been solved. There remains a problem with mate in one positions. The tablebases work untill there is a mate in one. Then everything disappears. In Fritz 18 everything is working fine and there you can see all the moves. Chessbase is working to correct the errors but this seems to be difficult.

I can reproduce this problem. With the latest update (7) it isn't fixed yet.

To clarify if I use the pull-down menu circled in red and switch to a CBH formatted database, the position search updates as expected. If I select a 2CBH formatted database other than the one actually designated as my reference (Mega in this case) it does not work.
I had several problems with the pull down menu. Also in the video of Sagar Shah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TMmjwrbSJE you can see that there are too little hits in the 2CBH reference database vs the online database when searching a position. (see from aprox 25.00 minutes to 27.00 minutes in the video).
I hope that Chessbase brings out some updates to correct these problems.
The latest software update appears to have corrected the issue I was having with searching positions in 2CBH formatted databases. The search also seems to be noticeably faster now which is a nice bonus. Also, my tablebase reporting appears to be working properly as well at this point. With this latest update (8), performance appears to be quite good.

Yesterday with the help of Chessbase customer support I was able to correct some problems. I must give them a thumbs up. They helped me a lot. The service was really outstanding!!!!

Fritz 18 is not compatible with 2CBH as far as I know. Just Chessbase 17 (keep in mind Fritz and Chessbase are separate programs and Chessbase 17 is newer than Fritz 18). Maybe the next iteration of Fritz will be able to read 2CBH.

Indeed 2CBH is introduced in Chessbase 17 and Fritz18 is older. Fritz18 is a chessprogram with some database functionality but very different from Chessbase itself. It seems logical that in the next version Fritz is able to read the 2CBH format. But still they haven’t phased out the old CBH files because lots of users still use Chessbase 16 and older which do not support 2CBH either. In chessbase 17 we are at version 10 right now and the tablebase problem still exists but only in mate in one situations. Fritz 18 on the other hand doesn’t have this problem as I mentioned before.
Overall, are any Chessbase products worth buying, for someone who plays a mix of daily and rapid and is not very high rated but keen to study and improve?
Yes, but unfortunately you would have to start with the base program, which is €130, and it's only half-complete unless you also buy Fritz, which is €80.
That being said, some of the Fritz trainers are €30, and you don't need ChessBase itself to use them. You can use them in either CB or Fritz. In fact, the latter has a few kludgy additions to it so that it can function independently of the former.
Chessable is a good alternative, but beware the sales tactics. Some of their material is GM-level, and they'll push it on beginner and club players.
