I think the moderators should allows you to curse as much as you like when playing the computer.  It is not like you are going to hurt their feelings or anything.

Haha Nick. Good humor.

gchess33,

Honestly, I really want to know how he wins on level 10 here, and loses otherwise. My son's been going for coaching for the last year and a half. I earlier had a Samsung tab(the first one released ever) and he used to play on that till recently. I spent a lot of money replacing the charger cables over the last couple of years. I don't have a lot of money and this device was a good one. Till recently he was playing a software called "Chess Free" by AIFactory, where he started beating the highest level(12). Then I moved him to Chess.com where I started him off on level 7 or 8. He's now consistently been beating this.He also has been drawing or beating level 10. Yet he loses terribly in real local tournaments against t very low rated players. My son isn't rated yet.

I'm wondering where there's a gap

He's been playing against the computer on an old Samsung laptop after he finished off with the tab. I've been reading that the processing power of the device should also be reflecting the depth of calculations and speed. The old laptop that he's playing on now is by most guesses an I3 core. I bought it 2 or 3 years ago. I'm very perplexed. Maybe one day one of you guys could play him and check what the issue is. I want him to improve and any help would be appreciated.

Well chess.com Computer Level 10 on my computer plays at the same strength as Stockfish at 25 ply depth with an opening book to boot. So I'm guessing on my computer it's at least ~2600. The best I've ever gotten is a draw against it, and those are quite rare. I highly doubt rocko_bocko's son can beat it on that setup (that would make him at least super GM strength!).

gchess33,

Dude,

I'm in no way talking about my son's ability here. And you're right, that would make him a GM, I haven't yet understood stockfish and the difference between different chess engines and the idea of databases.I'm looking for help here. After my post earlier, my son was able to draw using repeated moves. I seriously would appreciate it if you guys could help me.

Perhaps you could show us a game or two of your son's against the engine? That would give me an idea of what's going on.

rocko_bocko

Let me do that. Again I really appreciate all the help

What I really wanted was a PGN so I could see how he fared throughout the game and maybe provide constructive feedback as well.

rocko_bocko

Thanks for the prompt reply. I haven't yet understood how PGN files work. I do understand that they are a part of the whole database and engine framework. Please bear with me. Next time he wins or draws, I'll make sure I post a proper game notation. Again, I really appreciate your replying. Hope you get to play with him sometime. I'm not a chess player. Just being a dad

How strong would an iPod touch be considered?

It's about time someone told me what the computer level was rated. I asked that question a month ago and was told that the computer can't be rated.

I have uploaded both an image of a level 10 win and the PGN
rocko_bocko

He does not do a take back or undo a move for sure. I will however watch it going ahead. I there any way to remove the undo or take back option?

I'm wondering the same thing.

That Level 10 is nowhere near the same strength as the one I have been playing. It fell for a simple opening trap early on. 6...Ke8?? was a really bad blunder. 12...Be5?? just gives away a piece. 15...Bd5?? also gives away a piece. This level plays more like my Computer Level 3 than Level 10.

Is there a dependency on the underlying hardware?
