I wonder where Jerry is going to go! We need warzone tournaments eh.
Well, true. Chess.com could use some more tournament varieties.
Also, Jerry can come here and teach! I'd be very happy ;D
Okay, to sumerise:
1. Chess Mentor should stay as is
2. Chess Tactics oppotunities should be raised up to at least about 10 puzzles.
Summary of my long post:
1. Chesscube is now corrupt
2. Lesson learned that chess.com should not corrupt and that they should not introduce virtual currency
3. I request some more features for free members

But hey, I understand what you are saying though. I think that FOA don't have policies against "sandbagging". It is a technique where the player with higher rating intentionally lose games in order to achieve lower rating, but still retain their skills. So I believe what you, or others should do is to request to the site moderators the making of policies against sandbagging, and to make an engine/rule to stop the 2000 players intentionally lose or reset their ELO rating too much.
Can you 2 get the out of this thread on your own, or do you need staff assistance for that?? If you need assistance, I can arrange that. There are lessons to be learnt by chesscube's demise, but NOT from morons like you.
Go start your own god dam thread.
Dennhynn, that is a lovely post and you did a great job outlining why it fell...
I'd merely go with the people who say there are tons of resources on YouTube -- resources I do not use, to be honest, lol. But once in a while I end up subscribing to a few different channels...
The thing is: video lessons, literally everywhere, cost money.
I think that the things free members get here hasn't changed for a very long time -- there's always been the same restrictions on tournaments, tournament creation, tactics, etc. so I do not think there is that much of a worry of it changing dramatically.
Thanks for your compliments
Yes, video lessons do cost money, but I believe it is rather rude to simply cut a video in half and demanding money. It would be much less rude and much enjoyable if they feature a couple of full-length videos and then asking for money for the video library unlock.
I can agree with that, Dennyhan; perhaps one consideration, though, is that videos created by masters require money.
It might be worth considering that there are some chess.com regular broadcasters such as IM Danny Rensch -- who is great at his job and seems to have just an awesome personality -- who I imagine could be contracted to produce a few such sample videos of things that could really help beginners an , of course, garner interest in thevideo features.
But one thing I'd like to point out and what is my biggest two criticisms of the site, and wht would improve them exponentially:
- Better user inteface. When I click on my name at the top bar, I am led to a place where I can edit my profile (???), as if this is something that I need to do regularly, as opposed to, say, being lead to a general account overview.
- Fix game explorer.
I really enjoy seeing if there are trends in the positions that I make, which can help improve me, but it seems that there has been no update to this since January 2014 (as far as my games being put in).
It was interesting to see my games history and see what were the reliable openings and what I should focus on.
I am sure it will come back on and perhaps has some programming challenges but it is taking too much time, IMO.
As I'm currently exploring an open source (!) free and ad-free site which is rapidly becoming popular, it is becoming obvious what are the features which really worth money. Since the said site has tacticts trainer ( unlimited ), analysis ( unlimited, now better than chess.com's ), the only feature I can name that is not provided by this site is chess mentor and expert videos ( but the net is full of free videos, so it is really only chess mentor ). There are tons of free game explorers out there, and in addition I'm not interested any more in them, because I made it a policy for myself that I should build the logic of my games by myself, learning from my mistakes, instead of memorizing opening lines. I want to understand what and why I play, so I don't look at opening explorers any more as a preparation, not even in correspondence.
Chess mentor is not enough reason for me to remain a paying member. Also when I was a diamond member my completely legitimate threads landed in obscure forums or off topic. Of course chess.com is legit to keep raging moderators, to decide what topics they like, it is their site, but why should I pay for this?
@WarlsMyFatherland
Yes, I think sample videos will be much for appealing than half cut videos
I also agree with your game interface, but not to such extent. I guess there are some areas where you can fix, but not to the point where they could improve exponentially.
I would also want to add that the study plans have not been developed for a thousand years...
@watcha
Chess.com, though some features are rather unfairly restricted, is more than justifiable asking for money as all servers require money - especially big ones such as chess.com - I daresay the site you speak of is not going to be free forever.
What I learned on the net that almost everything you can get for free. I used to buy programs, but I could not transport them to another machine. I had all kind of trouble with them. The safest bet is to look for a free solution which really works and then stick with it ( it takes some research, but once this is done you are better off ). For example Open Office is completely free, has all the functionality of Excel, Word, it has a state of the art drawing tool, etc.
The site I'm talking about has a different philosophy. It is run by people who do it not for living but for a hobby. They receive donations. If despite that it becomes a paying site, there will come another one instead of it.
The reality is that you can run such a site from a couple of hundred dollars per month, which even middle class persons can afford as a hobby. The internet is different from industries where the infrastructure is everything. Here the infrastructure has become quite cheap.
So where's the lesson to be learn'd from chesscube's demise?? Another thread full of hatred?? In your 3rd paragrah, you asked that chess.com implement 2 little suggestions. And chess.com should do this why?? We all know the quality of people that come running when you put out a free sign.
A lesson learned that chess.com should not corrupt, and definately do not introduce virtual currency!
I am suggesting this so that chess.com can attract more traffic, and possibly more members if they slightly loosen the noose on free members.
We all know that there are some poor people who are really geniuses at chess are out there you could not afford or their society deems paying for chess is ludicrous.
Please, I don't want hate, especially in a website I am a big fan of.
