Children Vs. Adults

I think chess.com should have an age filter, this is completely unfair because kids 16 and under should not have to play 30 year olds who are operating at a considerably higher mental capacity then them. A few hours ago, I played a guy in one match, he destroyed me on time when checkmate was close. I am only 16, does chess.com really expect me to be able to compete against a n adult? Some desperate adults even deliberately play against young chess players to play with confidence and most likely win, it's pathetic. I ask that chess.com make a filter when you make an account and when you log on to select which age group you would like to play. If a moderator or developer is reading this please consider closely.

Can't tell if trolling or not.

I would want reverse - I am tired of kids beating me to a pulp!

wackwow

go children lol

ivandh

There's this rating thingy that tells you roughly how good you and others are. Play people with a numbery-jig that is close to yours and you will not cry as much.

netzach

Plenty of talented-kids on here making mincemeat of adults and destroying them at chess so works both ways.

Retrodanny

chess.com does filter players to match their strength, that is why you have a rating. No need to segregate in terms of other factors (age, gender, etc.)

ivandh

On second thought I would like to boot all kids off to chesskid.com so we could have raunchy toga parties. If you're cool and don't tell nobody you can stay.

Rnewms

What stops them from lying about their age?

netzach

Just ban animated memes and pokemon and all will be well.

waffllemaster

Netherlands and Luxembourg flag is the same?

Of course you can play against an adult. An adult with your rating isn't going to better than you just because they're grown.

I'd like an age filter for the forums sometimes heh.

Beebsa

Great suggestion!

Irontiger

Huh...

Sometimes I play against people that are stronger than me at chess, and they beat me...

That's really unfair, why doesn't chess.com matches me with players I can beat easily ?

Do you see the flaw in the reasoning ?

It's not because you're a kid, it's because you suck at chess. For instance, your play in this game http://www.chess.com/livechess/game?id=459379920 is horrible. That may go away with practice. Back when I used to play competitively, I once got horribly trounced by like a 10-year-old girl who apparently came from a serious chess-playing family and had learned to play really well. On the other hand, I once came up against a slightly older kid and sent her home sadder and wiser. Some you win, some you lose.

Last time I looked, kid #1 had gone on to be rather good. Go thou and do likewise. The chessboard hasn't a clue how old you are. And if anything the pressure's all one way, because if the adult wins, it's like BFHD you beat a little kid, whereas if the kid wins, it's all PALATRadult for losing to a child.

Finally, 16-year-old kids used to be rated old enough to fight on battlefields or warships or work 13-hour days, so how about you grow a pair and stop complaining?

Huh.

I'm not sure I support this part of the argument, to say the least...

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I live in a century and a country that does not send adolescents off to war. I'm just pointing out that (a) it's historically recent and (b) most ado's in my experience want to be treated more like the adults they should be on the way to becoming, and therefore (c) they should not be looking to be treated like children when and only when it suits them.

Dutchday

Wrong mentality. When I was 16, adults were worrying about playing me. I beat adults who were like 6 ft!

If you complain the opponents are too strong, you don't want a challenge. You only want to chop wood.
