If you're just looking to improve, I would guess that ideally you're playing people in the 1100 - 1400 range. People who are slightly better than you will give you the chance to defeat them, but they'll also be better at punishing whatever mistakes you make in your gameplay. Chess.com doesn't let you set your rating range such that you only play people with higher Elo than you, so you'll have to settle with somewhere within your Elo range.
