clock skips in android app!

When I play the app using my android phone, I will make my move, and then the clock will skip an additional 30 secs (or typically some fraction of a minute) in addition to the time I spent thinking about my move, and my opponent's clock time will increase by the same amount. It's as if I'm getting penalized for some sort of system/server lag, and it's incredibly frustrating!
