Cocktails and Chess??

Is this a bad combination?? This is just a fun topic, chime in if you want.. or not!

Now I am have had my ass handed to me many times playing chess with cocktails, but I have had some moments that I may have played some of my greatest games ever mixing cocktails and chess.

I used to play on a few other sites previously. I don't like to promote other sites since this site is the KING (no pun intended) of internet chess!! I was so "on my game" one night with some cocktails, I beat a 2300 player 3 games in a row in 5 min games... then I quit and passed out on my couch. I reviewed the games the next day and had no clue how I knew I thought the moves I thunked! (Yes, Thunked is not a word)

Just a fun topic here. I know the reality is, DO NOT mix chess and booze and expect a win, but share any relevant stories!

there is this saying: "if you can't do something drunk, you're not really good at it"

Alekhine usually did OK PUI (Playing Under the Influence) except in 1935 when he lost the title to Euwe, but he got it back in 1937 after going on the wagon.

I prefer cocktails or straight shots of whisky when I'm analyzing my (turn-based) games here, except when I'm drinking beer or hard cider instead (hic)

Playing intoxicated is extremely fun. Several friends of mine and I play shot chess regularly, or something we dubbed 'Wizard Chess', when you play sh*t faced on hard liquor and while you enjoy some of the greener things in life.
To this day, I have yet to lose a game of wizard chess.

I like to drink a bottle of wine.  My girlfriend passes out and I play chess for a few hours.  I play one minute games and five minute games usually.  Then I play my turn based games and ruin any plan or strategy I had.

Its fun anyway.  I think I play about the same in the quick games

I like to drink one or two beers in combination with chess, but only *after* the game if it's a tournament game.

Interesting topic that I've often pondered.

As it so happens, I've not infrequently found myself gathering empirical data on this hypothesis: I've been working on perfecting what I call the "Wino Gambit," although I still have not been able to distinguish it from a drunken blunder...but in the Edisonian spirit, I continue to successfully find ways that don't work;)

I've played Live Chess while under the influence of certain "herbal medicines" and actually done quite well for myself. The main avenue of difficulty is remembering that a game is going on, to avoid losing on time. (Tabbed browsing plus a severely limited attention span is a recipe for unintentional game abandonment, let me tell you.)

When it comes to actually being drunk, I'm typically too restless to even sit down long enough to *start* a game.
