Congratulations to Grandmaster Faustino Oro!

A congratulatory thread celebrating the achievements of Grandmaster Faustino Oro at his latest tournaments, especially the Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026, where he officially secured his final GM norm!

What a young talented player! I am so excited to see him play and improve in the future!

Incredibly pleased for him. I hope he’s not too upset to have missed out on the record for youngest ever, but he has a brighter future than any of us ahead chesswise!

I believe he said something like: „Of course it would’ve been nice to break the record, but I will get to GM anyway.“ (Not a fully accurate quote).

He did say something like that.

Yes. He’s slightly younger than me and yet 100x better at chess. It’s fun to watch younger players who are better than you at chess, and I’m not saying that as someone old. I’m just saying that because usually the highest quality chess I see from people who are younger is not the greatest. Example: At a local OTB tournament I saw the following: 1. h4 h5 2. g4 e5. At any rate he deserves GM!

Having missed out on the record might actually push him even more to achieve more. Kind of like not being drafted #1 but feeling like ur still the best and setting out to prove it.

He's currently #33 on the junior rankings list. It'll be fun to watch him climb to #1.
