Contacting Famous GM's

Hello all,

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering if any of you have ever spoken to any famous GM's via email or anything like that about chess advice. If so, what did they say, and would you suggest me contacting them with chess questions. If anyone has ever succesfully contacted them, please tell me about it. Thanks.

I once talked to an IM with a GM norm at a tournament. Close enough?

I'm talking about people 2700 FIDE and up. IM is still very impressive.

I talked to Larry Evans at the Texas Open during the late 80's, he opined that Bobby Fischer would never return to chess..."Why would he mess up his aure of invicibility?"

3-4 years later, there he was, messing with his aura and all that.

Very cool.

No, but I just discovered that GM Shulman opened a chess school for kids about 30 minutes away from my house. Seriously thinking about taking my kid there if he gets into chess.

I've talked with two 2700+ GM's.  One was Mickey Adams.  I was at a lecture he gave.

The other one was Gata Kamsky.  We talked about girls more than we talked about chess.  It was a much better conversation.

The reality is that there is no such thing as "one size fits all" chess advice.  Asking anyone, whether they be a 2700+ GM or someone who is 100 points higher rated that you, a question like "what can I do to improve" is really a waste of time.

You're much better off asking specific questions like "What is a good way to improve calculation?"  Or "How much time should I spend analyzing my games after I play them?"

If you ask too broad of a question the answer will be too broad as well.

I wouldn't suggest that you become a stalker though, lol...

BulgarianMachine, there must be so many of such golden clips on Youtube by now. I have yet to see most of them. Can you start a forum thread collecting these one by one?

Great greetings chess enthusiastics! I made a new chess-related board game and I was searching for how to ask a chess grandmaster about it (as the highest authority). So I got here. Here's my crazy creation: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EwOjYrjfvKAYWAwSOnJnO-VYGLDrCaLIN2AaD4HP_rQ - please just at least IM to tell me your opinion on it.

Thank you all for your understanding,
