Have you tried using the Chess Mentor feature? It really is an outstanding training aid.
Could someone coach me?
I also need a mentor. I asked my parents if i could get a premium membership, but they said no because i spend too much time on here.

ErrantDeeds beat me to it
After Chess Mentor, get on to Novice Nook at ChessCafe.
Beyond that, just keep asking questions as you go along, in time you will learn.

hihi I won 3 months chess mentor for the halloween theme :) schools started and I got barely any time though! I think joining in a few productive groups that analyse games would be helpful!

jalller435718, I thought you were the one who set up the informal coaching program, didn't you assign anybody to yourself?

While I'm sure there are many out there more qualified than myself, I'd be happy to play an unrated coaching game with anyone <1300.

since you are running a mentoring forum as well, why don't you match yourself with a mentor and get some serious coaching ???? makes sense, doesn't it???

I offer coaching services. You can check out my blog or posts for some insight into my teaching style. Also you can watch a few annotated lectures I gave via voice + video on http://www.zenchess.com
I'm rated 1919 uscf currently, though 1930 when my latest tournament is taken into account, and about 1980 when the first 2 games of a match I am playing are rated...

If you're willing to pay as much as this amateur is charging, then you wouldn't turn down much cheaper rates from a Fide Master professional player and top class Professional coach. tigerlilov is his handle on this site.

just out of curiousity, how much on average does a personal chess coach cost? i'd love to get even a couple lessons from a master. i think even a few sessions would greatly help.

I would estimate between $20/hour and $50/hour. You can find a list of chess.com coaches here http://www.chess.com/coaches. You can contact them for their individual rates. Their students tend to give feedback, and Valeri Lilov [tigerlivov] (who is listed near the beginning of the directory) certainly has attracted some enthusiastic responses.

Oh god, I love this post.
I won't even get into the 'amateur' word. Suffice to say I find it insulting even if it's technically correct.
Since I'm charging $15 an hour, I am really wondering what kind of extraordinarily broke master is accepting lessons for $10 an hour. Time to investigate.
Hmm, seems he charges $19 an hour.
Please, if you're going to insult me, at least get my rates right. "Much Cheaper rates" does not mean charging $4 an hour more.

1. Pretty much everyone below Master level is officially an amateur. It's not "insulting" at all. Just fact, deal with it. Surely you aren't dillusioned enought to think you are professional standard?
2. He honestly just raised his rates for new students after I typed that post, and quite rightly so, because he is excellent. However, the rates for the students he was already coaching such as me will stay the same: 12 euros per hour, roughly 8 pounds I think. Not to mention he offers many other services as well such as game annotations, if one doesn't want to fully go for lessons. So I did get your's and his rates right, but I can't see into the future.
I didn't want to start a war here, but try to make sure jaller gets the best value for his money, and even with his rise in rates I still believe because of the top level quality of his services Valeri is better value than you. You are allowed to think differently of course.
