Curious Rating Discrepancy

Recently I had been looking at the global leaderboards on chess.com and stumbled across an odd rating jump in the games of the current #1 ranked rapid chess account.

Across one game, the ChessBrahs gained 600 elo points out of the blue. I can't find any reasons behind this jump online, and I'm fairly confused as to the circumstances that led to such an event. If anyone has any clue what happened, I'd be super grateful to listen!

That's not unusual it's just courtesy points.

Have never heard of courtesy points. Does this not break chess.com's own ToS in some way? Does this not invalidate the rapid rankings?

It could be that period of time when 10|0 was converted to rapid control. There was some change on the rating system at that point of time.

During that time, as long as players were playing 10|0 blitz, their ratings would be carried over to the "rapid" rating, such that their new rapid rating would follow their past blitz ratings.

It could be one possible reason.

Yep, that happened in September 2020
