defensive tactics

any good tips for improving on defensive tactics, seems like most of all the puzzles either here or elsewhere are designed to either win material or mate, after going through my last couple losses i spent the whole game defending, the pressure keeps building then one mistake ends the game.
anybody have any tips? seems like at a certain point i just overlook a pin.

Google play (android phones) has some apps by 'chess king' that focus on defensive tactics. I have one. It is free but the full version costs 5 bucks. Andrew Soltis has a book about it but I can't remember the name lol 🤔
