There is no short a answer most players of standing grew up with descriptive notation ie., 1.P-K4,P-K5 2.N-KB3, N-QB3 but had to change to Algebraic notation 1.e4,e5 2.Nf3,Nc6 etc. If your looking at converting your old recorded description notation games into algebraic by hand then you will have to contend with possible writers cramp as your need good supply of Biro Pens and lot of patients. On subject of using a computer to ease the task I wouldn't know where to start as me and computers don't mix very well?!
