I'm 1100 rapid and I managed to get up to 2300+ puzzle rating. But it took me on average ten minutes per puzzle which I did not find optimal for training. And not that fun either.
Now I spend average 1-2 minutes per puzzle but rating dropped to 2000.
It seems that the 10 minutes were more productive: you was forced to calculate further, something that we should do when playing chess. I am surprised to see that your rapid rating is so slow, perhaps you are regularly missing something in the opening, or your defensive skills are underdeveloped. What do you see when you analyze your games?
I am really bad playing fast chess. My ratings are approx 1400 (daily), 1100 (rapid), 700 (blitz) and 400 (bullit). I started playing chess a little over a year ago, beeing in my 50's maybe my brain is just too slow? 😁 When I have long enough time too think I can play some decent chess but with any sort of time control I start to make a lot of mistakes.
And I also find it easier to think methodological when solving a puzzle. I know there is a solution giving me a winning position and I go through the different options. In a real game I don't really know what to look for.
Are you improving in rapid because your tactics?
Or did you work on other parts of the game too?
