Disconnect Cheat Glitch

I just took a look at his list of games. He has 11 wins and 9 losses in his last 20 games.

There is no logic to this. You guys are disconnecting and then jumping to ridiculous conclusions because you are upset you lost rating points when you should have gained some.

Who cares about rating? I play chess because I enjoy playing chess. If my rating is lower than it should be, then I play weaker opponents and therefore get to play more attacking chess, which is good. So I really don't care if I lose rating points, I'll enjoy getting them back.

shubhamsio

No one cares about rating here but if u don't get to play at all , look at the last game played between me and him , I had 5 min and he had 3 min , I had my queen and took rooks and he only had his queen and Horse and I lost by time. how in the world is that possible. I didn't get to move after that at all. This has not happened on one game , if it was , I would not have escalated.

I even just took the time to have a look at the final positions in the 11 games he won. In all cases, he won by resignation.

If you think someone is cheating like this, take a look at their games. That is literally the first thing you should do. It will be obvious if they are cheating.

The people comlaining about this are the same type of people who say poker sites are rigged, that people can see their cards, that bad beats happen to them more than average. It's just paranoia.

captaintugwash

"how in the world is that possible."

You disconnected. That is at least one option, and is a great deal more likely than someone cheating only once by hacking the server.

shubhamsio

Just to let u know , I have tried wifi and mobile data as well and this only happens when I'm about to win or have gained advantage in the game , why would I disconnect when I have the advantage. this never happens when I'm on the losing end. I have 5 different games where this has happened. I have also sent a ping to this guy while I was playing with him , he didn't even respond which makes it clear for me that he was cheating.

shubhamsio

Okay , so I would disconnect a game when I'm winning. what a logic.

captaintugwash

It might not even be a connection issue with your router, it could be an app problem, a phone problem, a laptop problem, a server problem at chess.com's end, there are tons of reasons why people disconnect.

If he was cheating like this, there would be lots of games of his where this was happening. Don't you agree?

shubhamsio

I agree but why does it only happen when I'm about to win or have gained advantage , why it doesn't happen when I'm losing ?

captaintugwash

Bad luck I guess. Seems a lot more likely than someone cheating.

shubhamsio

If there was a problem , it would happen anytime , not when I'm about to win or have gained advantage , I have lost about 7 such games now which is irritating me not because I'm losing but because I'm not getting to play the full game.

captaintugwash

Or at least, someone cheating where there is no evidence in their past game history to support it.

I'm not suggesting you chose to disconnect. It happened by accident. Maybe it was a bad signal.

shubhamsio

once , twice , thrice , one user , two user , three user , how many coincident can happen at the same time ?

captaintugwash

There's a technical term for luck... variance.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variance

captaintugwash

I play a lot of poker. Sometimes, I might lose with AA, then a few hands later lose KK vs something like 88, then dump the rest of my chips with AK vs KQ. Probability of me losing those three hands together is around 1%, but I play enough poker that I understand it's going to happen sometimes.

There's also something else to consider... perhaps you don't disconnect from games where you're losing because you resign them.

shubhamsio

well , you are only making assumptions which will not yield any result.

shubhamsio

So many users with the same problem and your assumptions should fit all of them ?

captaintugwash

If someone can demonstrate to me that their opponent is winning lots of lost games due to timeout, then I'll take it seriously.

Until then, I'll assume that you're a handful of paraniod people who are disonnecting through no fault of your own.

captaintugwash

Do you know what beats paranoia? Logic.

Look at his previous games. Is there a pattern? y/n

@shubhamsio, I just looked through your last 100 losses.  You have two games where you appear to have lost due to disconnections:

https://www.chess.com/live/game/2563338967

https://www.chess.com/live/game/2561570536

That's 2% of your recent losses.  Since you lose about half of your games, that's about 1% of your games.  That's enough to be annoying and it would be good if we can find a way to improve that, but let's keep it in perspective: for every game you lose by disconnecting, you can play about 99 without a problem.

I took a look at your opponents in those games.  In the first one, your game was the only recent one he appears to have won by his opponent disconnecting in a won position.  He has a couple games where he was winning and his opponent either disconnected or abandoned the game, but he was going to win those anyway.  Your opponent in the other game has only won two of his last 50 wins (so about 2 of his last 100 games) by an opponent disconnecting in a game where he was likely to lose.

If they had a cheat like this, they would be doing it more often like that.  But such a cheat is technically extremely difficult, and impossible for the average hacker.

What's far more likely is an internet glitch, a problem with the server, or a problem on your end.  A hack by your opponents just doesn't make sense.  Neither of your recent losses from disconnection are against people who have a pattern of winning that way, and there are other explanations that make much more sense.

Now, that doesn't mean it's not a problem that would be good to improve, but it simply doesn't make sense for it to be your opponent hacking you.
