Do correspondence players on here (why's it called online?) prefer 3 days or 5?

I was wondering what the preference was because I want to get the most players to play in my thematic tournaments. Currently I have them set at 5 only because I wanted to play in all 3 & I'm currently in 1 already. But that's just me, others may prefer a faster time control.

Pre_VizsIa

3 so that the losers can't stall as long.

It literally makes no difference for me.

MrDamonSmith

Which do y'all think will attract the most players?

kco

3 days.

Scottrf

I think 3 days will attract more because they go on for long enough as it is.

Otomun

Probably 3 days, looking at the upcoming tournaments list.

MrDamonSmith

Thanx. I only have one other player registered right now. Is it possible to make changes even though that person signed up assuming it was 5 days?

kco

I think you can change it.

Ubik42

Personally I do not care. I adjust the number of games to fit my schedule so I am always busy. The only thing I really care about is vacation so I can manage my time.

MrDamonSmith

Well I'm gonna set it at 3 days & vacation is ok. I have a Caro,  a Slav, & a London set up. Y'all should come play in it. The idea is to learn some openings for a change. I really suck in the openings, don't know any & I should with my rating. I chose those for structural reasons. Their pawn structures are related, I thought they may be easier to learn because they have some structural similarities. I hope that you will come & impart some wisdom you may have in these openings & we can all become stronger.

I prefer 24 hours so that opponents can't stall once they get into a losing position.

kco

"I have a Caro,  a Slav, & a London" please do tell us what's the joke.

1 or 3 works best for me

MrDamonSmith

Nope, no joke.Laughing I don't know openings very well & figured this was an ideal way to learn them. Correspondence while studying them. The idea is that strategical concepts would spill over from one structure to another because of the pawn structures. Heck, I'd pick a different 3 if their pawn structures were closely related enough. I don't care about the openings so much, more about the middle & endgame. Just don't wanna spend such limited time learning a whole bunch of different openings.

kco

I agree with what you are doing about the way you set it up to learn the openings.

MrDamonSmith

Cool. How about playing in them? It'll be fun & educational. Even if you don't play these openings it will broaden your horizons & make you a stronger player.

MrDamonSmith

I just changed it to 3. Y'all should play in it. Come on, you can help me get better by giving me a good thumpin' in the opening. But then............... there's the middle & endgame.

OK.  A Caro, a Slav, and a London go on a cruise together.  On the first night, the London goes into the ship's disco, sits at the bar, and strikes up a conversation with a lovely young lady.

"Evening, love.  My name's London."

"Nice to meet you, London.  You're quite a handsome chess opening.  Are you here by yourself?"

"I'm at the bar by myself.  I have a couple chaps here on the cruise with me but they stayed behind in the cabin."

"Oh, why is that?  Not into the nightlife, I guess?"

"No, it's not that.  They've never been on the ocean before and it turns out they're c6."
