I just started spaced repetition with a certain group of puzzles. I found it to be way more effective and efficient. You stick with a group. In my case 200. Do them every day. Eventually you start doing them for time and speed because you will eventually start getting them all right. Similar to the woodpecker method.
Once I started this. Not long after I went on 9-10 game winning streak on daily games. Even though I still seemed kind of stuck on the rated puzzles.
Bottom line the spaced repetition definitely improved my tactical and over all daily rating. I seemed to have got a little quicker at reading the board as well. Even though I don’t play blitz hardly ever. So I don’t worry about the puzzle rating as much.
For example I have reached 2100 with relative ease the first time I got there. Then the inevitable drop off happens and I retreat back to around 2000. I assume that the same level puzzles will be presented on my way back up to 2100 but they seem much harder. This makes me peak at around 2050, before I drop off to around 1950. At that point I’m trying back to climb back to 2050, but of course I peak around 2000 and drop off to 1900.
I’ve noticed that before I was getting more familiar patterns but now the puzzles include more open positions and longer problems in general.
Also it seems I lose a lot more points for getting a puzzle wrong than being awarded for getting one right, regardless of the difficulty of the puzzle I solve.
