I was born in SE Asia. The Philippines produced some of the best bowlers and billiards players of the world. Bowling centers and Billiards centers are in all cities. Asia's first Grandmaster is Eugene Torre of the Philippines. The best Asian Chess Nation used to be Philippines until India and China takes over. Indonesia was next to the Philippines in Chess, Billiards and Bowling in SE Asia.

*snipanathan* Also most Asian only play games which allow them to create funky avatars

Which is why we're all here on chess.com. and what flairs they have!

Your height is so relevant to that spurious claim

It might be, especially given the average height there is 5'2".  Perhaps only the tall people's club plays chess.

Everything is more fun with kids

Except perhaps chess.com...

Efren "Bata" Reyes, the greatest pool player in history, is from the Philippines. So much for your billiards claims.

So why would a pool player have any influence on my billiards claim?
It is like saying Efren Reyes was great at Backgammon, so much for your chess claim.

@Bong ,  Philippines is technically not part of South East Asia though, China and India certainly are not.

The Philippines is close but I am talking only about South East Asia.

Do you know how many play billiards in Philippines? How many billiards centers? How many skip school to play billiards? Oh, you will say i make this up.

Philippines is not SE Asia? Maybe this was taught when I was absent. ASEAN include Philippines. It means Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Bong ....billiards is not pool.

Pool has pockets, billiards doesn’t.

which means it does not matter how much pool Efren Reyes played it makes no difference to the billiards claim.

Why was he called Efren Reyes? That is a Cuban name. This story sounds a bit suspicious

The Philippines is way north of Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia , look at the map there is nothing south about it.

It is a Far East Asian country because it is very Far East and north of SE Asian countries.

You're being technical wink.png To us billiards or pool, it's the same table and balls. The game is either called 10 ball, 9 ball, 8 ball or Race to score 61 points. The holeless table you mentioned is called Carambola or simply Caroms. Efren plays it too. Cuban name? Or Spanish name? Spanish Surnames and Spanish names are common in Philippines.

To end our debate if Philippines is part of SE Asia.

Your link took me to the North Illinois College for liberal arts and science.

These are probably the last people on earth you should believe when it comes to anything.

First of all they are liberals, who as we know are ready to throw everything into the same category at the drop of a hat.

Secondly they are from the USA , a country notorious for not being able to point out the USA on a map

Look at a world map and ask yourself : are the Philippines south East in the bigger scheme of Asian countries?

Your eyes, heart and mind will tell you ‘ no it is not’

Do not be fooled by these liberals
