I think I rarely move by intuition. I'm a computer in my case!
It's not often you'd find a computer outside of its case!
Depends on what you and I meant by "case". For me, it's the box.

I assume your statement is meant to be tongue in cheek. If not, I point out the aphorism: God helps those who help themselves.

Yes, totally. Just humor. I guess I thought it would be obvious; espescially to anyone familiar with my posts. All in good fun.
Actually, God does not play dice. At least, that is what Einstein said.

It's been a good thread and question - made me realize i've been TRYING to calculate way too much, sometimes 40 mins on ONE move - and thus making silly, tired mistakes.
i will strive to become ONE with the chessboard and subconscious.

In that case, i should have thought outside the box!

lol
it seems our opinions and beliefs and our facts are based more on intuition than calculation...life does copy chess...
I calculate a ton OTB, online though I don't have the incentive and play almost entirely by intuition.

if your playing one of your well known games, opening, or endgame then you use the same knowledge or understanding both online intuitively and otb. So what more calculation is required otb?
Like I said, I don't have the incentive to actually expend energy on online games. Afterall, all I get for winning is fake rating points.
Also i've got too many distractions here.
Do you calculate a lot or do you go by intuition? I'm not talking of forced captures and stuff.
Frivolity aside, intuition and calculation are both valuable. Experience leads to intuituion. This can steer one into a more limited set of candidate moves. From there, calculation determines which is the best among the candidate moves. Both are important, and indespensible.
Calculation alone can waste time if one starts with moves that are inappropriate to the situation. Intuition alone may betray you, if there is a trap whereby a move, usually beneficial, fails in a secific situation.
Therefore, calculation is rendered more efficient by intuition, and intuition must be supported by calculation.
Some people tend to look at the problem as an "either/or" consideration. "Tactics or strategy." "Positional or tactical." "Intuition or calculation." Chess is not an either/or proposition. One must use every resourse available. Tactics, strategy, position, attack, defense, intuition, instinct, and calculation must all be tools in one's kit if one wishes ultimately to be successful.
It's much simpler than that. If God wants you to win, you win. If God wants you to lose, you lose. Why complicate it?
God is watching our games neutrally like an arbiter.
yes, good old loving god, Should read, "God is watching the war in syria neutrally, like an arbiter." ...? seems like he? couldn't care less? last i heard he was in Istanbul somewhere smokin' some hash, and getting laid.
Now there's a god I can believe in.

Some positions call for calculating alot of variations and some don't. But playing a move just because it feels good is always wrong. Any move as good as it looks must always be calculated to an extent to make sure its not a mistake. I know because I've made plenty of impulse moves that felt good, or made strategic sense, and I resigned on the next move lol.
in my case no!! i trust my instincts .if u gonna lose ,u will eventualy lose, calculating a lot dosent mean you calculate right..

Think like this and you will never improve. You must always make sure a move you make doesn't lose material and you should calculate what your opponents best response would be. Moving on sheer impulse is a mistake. Its true you may not calculate right, but it will improve the more you do it.

AKA God has no influence.
