Do you own a chess den, room, or nook?

At one time, Bobby Fischer wanted to live in a house shaped like a rook.

I know a house that looks like a rook on a remote beach in California.

I usually stay near there during the President's Day weekend in February.  So the next time I good, I'll take a photo.

That would be interesting! Yes take a picture or two. Thanx.

This is great.  I found a picture of it on the Internet.  The house is located at Pajaro Dunes on Monterey Bay in Northern California.

It's more like a castle with a turret.  But the turret definitely looks like a rook.

I'll still try to take my own photos next February.

Okay, y'all inspired me. I unclenched a little, took the storage out of the den, and put all my chess stuff in there:

It's not quite done yet. I need to get a wifi router so I can connect that laptop to the internet. Then I can access all the sites I play chess on from the den.

I am in love with the wooden chess table near the right of the second picture, do you know what price range that is in?

Ooh, sorry, it's not really a chess table. The table is a scratch and dent from my dad. Knowing his wife, she got it in an antique shop. On top of it is an even more scratched and dented wooden board. It's the family set that I learned on, and it's had kids playing with it since at least the 70s. The pieces are standard triple weight plastic pieces.

I'm a bit of a squirrel, so the chess stuff is found all over the place...

Here's a little wooden set I have tucked in the corner of my bedroom.my nook

The pictures would be cooler if they were reduced in size some, in my view. I love seeing 'em, however.

Yes, please try to reduce the size of your photos before you upload them.  Maybe something that fits normal screens without scrolling.  Say, a max of 800 pixels wide.  Some people have slow connections...even dial-up.

Thanx

Sorry about the large pix guys.   I'm new to this uploading digital images thingy.   I took that pic with the crappy camera on my cellphone which is why the image looks a little fuzzy.    Still hope you like it.    :)

Anyway,  the pic you see is my new wooden set which I bought for $20 on Amazon.   (Hey,  I don't want to blow $1000 bucks on a chess set - I got bills to pay!)  I have several other smaller plastic sets scattered around my bedroom, but the wooden one is the nicest.

The white algebraic coordinates you see are actually white strips of cardboard I cut out and marked with a magic marker since the board does not have coordinates on it.   It makes it easier to record and play over games.   I was planning to include my copy of Mikhail Tal's "My Life and Games" in the pic but forgot at the last minute.   Maybe I'll be inspired like qixel to include a portrait of Tal whenever I play a game.

He's my favorite all-time player.   I love his all out attacking sacrificial style although few people including many GMs can get away with playing like that.

Like qixel, I'm more of a chess groupie (but male) than a chess player.   The wooden set sits at the corner of my bed so it's the first thing I see when I wake up in the morning.

Hope to see lots more chess nooks from you all soon.   (trying to locate brother's digital camera, grrrrr ....)

Yes, I want to add Tal too.  After Capablanca, he's my favorite.  Maybe someday, if I get that digital picture frame, I'll have all my favorite chess photos cycle through.

Anyway, I was inspired today to "create" a refrigerator chess set.  See the photo below.  I just printed out a chessboard on standard copy paper and used pieces from a 99 cent magnetic set I had lying around.

Seeing everyone in their chess holes makes me smile.
