career.
Do you play chess for fun, or competitive?

Fun mostly, just pushing my limits
If i ever get VERY good (which will never happen) then i'll prob do for career

Fun.
Only the top 30 or so players in the world can make decent money purely from playing chess, though coaching and streaming etc can be another way to make a living from the game.

I only play to make others feel extremely anxious. OTB is best when you start seeing them chomping all their finger nails up.. it's a goodun.

I play for improvement and the challenge. Overall, this is fun, but obviously some days are more fun than others. Even for some titled players, chess isn't their "career." It is just a hobby, or their passion. Only the top 50 players in the world or so can currently make a full-time living on chess playing income alone. This is why so many titled players are forced to supplement their income through creating courses, writing chess books, or offering chess coaching.
Luckily for me, chess is a hobby I enjoy. Even if it paid more, I probably wouldn't want to make a career out of just chess playing; this sounds stressful and time-consuming. I think I'd rather suffer the stress and time under the pretense that this is simply one of many hobbies
I play because it's fun, but I do want to make a career out of it. GM if I can, I also want to be a chess coach.
Well its either I do the one thing I have a decent chance at or I'm going to end up working at McDonald's or something when I flunk out.

I play for improvement and fun. You can't really call yourself competitive when all you do is just play small tournaments with Below 2000 rating.

Both for fun and career
Career? Only the top 50 chess players in the world or so can actually make enough money on their chess ability alone to make a full-time income.
This is the reason even chess Grandmasters usually need to supplement their income in other ways such as writing chess books, making opening courses, or streaming chess.
If you want to play chess for fun and maybe a little extra money if you are good enough, then sure go for it, but at best I'd see this more like a part-time job than a full-time career.
Title says everything
