Chess IS a sport. Now they are two types of sports ok? Mental and physical. Just like indoor and outdoor (whatever). So what we would be doing while playing chess? Sit and move pieces. Simple. But once take it with focus. When we move a piece. Do you think we move it with a huge process of thinking or else just move for no reason? When we take this game as serious, we would surely think alot. And just like some fit people carries dumbles and heavy objects. When we play chess. Our brain does the same thing(what I meant is it's a tough game to play on and NOT everyone can play this competitive and mental sport). They might be no advantages when it comes to Body. But.. When it comes to Brain. It had alot of benefits. So hence, we HAVE a right to say chess IS a sport? I guess it's not even rude or illogical or something. It surely HAS an accurate logic.

@poorbi (aka Annabeth lol) It is quite obvious that chess is a sport because it has been recognised by the International Olympic Committee, and it has all the same reasons sports are played. Not physical, but there's competition, skill, and world leaderboard.

If chess is a sport, and this community represents it as "athletes," then it's the softest group of athletes in the world 😂. Most here are cowards who don't rematch. There's no spirit of sport here at all. Real athletes understand competition and the spirit of rematching. If they beat you once, they want to beat you twice. Here, it's a bunch of sissies who run away at the opportunity to preserve their little "victory." 😂

Of course it is. I believe that when people hear the word "sport" they think of ball running, the gym or other physical activities before their eyes, but let's not forget about sports such as chess. Moreover, let us not forget that the Olympic Committee has long recognized chess as a sports discipline.

I was wondering, is that the same Olympic Committee that says Peng Shuai is just fine, resting comfortably, and there is nothing to see here? Just curious because, you know, sometimes credibility matters.

How do people even know she's missing has she altered her usual routine?

That's kinda the point. How does anyone know? The only contact she has allegedly had is with the IOC and the Chinese government. And they both say everything is fine. Why hasn't the WTA been in contact with her?

When the IOC says nothing to see here, keep it moving, that might be a bit of a red flag.

@Mr-Mudd.

Athletes are people who play sports with an objective to maintain physical fitness, dude. The term we chess players prefer to use is 'Grandmasters'.

good question. overally some people would burst out laughing without giving a second thought when someone tells this statement. yes chess players are not athletes. there can be termed as masters. and in fact chess is an indoor/mental sport.

You're a Grandmaster.

we can say master or player. and in fact chess has certain titles. not like those who play chess are grandmasters they can be termed as masters/players.

well all the chess players are NOT cowards. and in fact, fear does not mean dissportmanship/non-discipline.

master in chess is like teaching others. made them learn something new about the sport. and if you did all that. alright you can be termed as an master, but if you just play your chess by yourself for your sake for your improvement. then you are a player.

Does it really matter if it’s a sport or not - it’s a great game and we have fun playing , no ?
