Just download that free thing, watch the videos and judge yourself. I didn't discover any "secret" there.

In general you should be alerted if somebody talks about secret methods and rapid improvement. This is just advertisement.

The truth is improving in chess or any other skill is hard work and takes time. The only "shortpath" is to train the most efficient way.

He obviously does not recommend it.

There are so many free ways to improve yourself that it's not worth it to buy into stuff like this. They enticed you with promises of quick improvement but ... like the others said, there is no hidden secret to be found there. It's a marketing ploy.

LOL.

I thought I was the only one who can't stand Lakdawala's books. At first I thought it was just my weakness as a player that accounted for this, but the more of other authors I read, the more and more I dislike Lakdawala and remain confounded as why his publisher keeps asking for more of his stuff.

I think those videos are fine - ichess's videos aren't that bad, actually, and you will improve if you study them as carefully as you would a book game.

That said, for the same $70 (that's accounting for the 50% of the $140 lsit price) you spend on getting a set of videos that goes through a handful of games, you can get 2-3 top-rated books with hundreds of games, with better analysis and commentary.

And the thing with learning from videos - you can learn from them, but for it to equal studying books, you will most likely have to manually enter them into a database anyway as you would do for a book, for rapid review and engine analysis of sideline's you're considering. All in all, I don't find the videos save me much time compared to books, although there are some very good videos out there, and based on the sample video, the content is legit.

Thank you all of you for the suggestions..

I mean that an author who produces a couple of "Empire Chess" videos every month at a steady pace for the last 3-4 years cannot offer a quality product, no matter how strong a player he is (and Lemos is a strong chessplayer). So far I had the chance to review two and a half of them (the third one was so uniteresting that I never finished viewing it!), and while they aren't total crap, they don't offer something special to their supposed target audience, either.

oh.. now I got it.
Hey IMaster pfren, what do you think about the book "My System: 21st century Edition"?
I researched about it a little and found that it is the best suitable book for my level (I am jumping around 1700 in 15|10. I play seriously in standard time control only.)
What do you think about it????
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. As, I will invest much time in it, I want it to be really helpful and working for me.
Thanks :)

"My system" is a good book.

However, I think you could make use of free internet content.

For endgame training you could use Bill Wall's essential endgame database (in the download section of chess.com) and play the positions against an engine.

For tactics training either use the tactics trainer here or download a tactics database and train offline.

For articles on special topics you could work through the FIDE surveys available at: http://trainers.fide.com/surveys.html.

Or use the chesscafe columns in archive.org wayback machine

Could you point us to some "special" videos?  I can't seem to find any here!
