Does It Bother You that So Many of the Top Players have been Russian? Or Jews?

No, who cares?

The way a culture can produce great players is at least a little interesting.

Being bothered by it says something about the person being bothered though, rather than about Russians or Jews.

Once at a local tourney one of the premiere players in the region was hanging with the patzers and someone brought up how so many great players were Jewish. This strong master said, "Jews are pawn snatchers."

Followed by silence. I was left wondering what was going on in his head, and wondering if there was a case to be made. Or a partial case. Sounds somewhat dubious but I'm sure he could find some examples among the notable players.

Maybe it was the way the environment valued chess. In the US the environment places great value to basketball, football, baseball and even golf.  Schools have athletic scholarship in basketball, football, baseball and even track and field. And then there is professional basketball, football, and baseball. The exception was during the Cold War when Bobby Fischer caught the attention of the US media. But that is all gone now.  It is most likely that no American will ever get the attention of the media like Bobby Fischer.

huh ? what has that got to do with the price of the fish ?

No!  I have Jewish and Russian friends.  They are some nice people too.  Bad people do come in all nationalities; but in chess there's no room for ignorance/prejudice.  There is no such thing as a stupid question!  Although; to say the less; this one do has its ranking amongst the aforementioned question.  After all you have to play the white pieces and the black pieces.  Most people have a light-side and a dark-side about themselves; as an individual.  King Solomon was an Israelite and he is credited for inventing the game of chess, in order to keep his Military General Mentally Fit!  Respectfully Submitted!

Wow...where to begin?

Knightmage

hmmm I didn't know that king Solomon was from India.

i guess prejudice even exists in the chess community. How sad. Perhaps you can start your own private club with limited membership. That way, you won't have to be exposed to Russians or Jews.
