Does it take a lot of intelligence to be great at chess ?

I always hear people say chess is a game for smart people. I read a lot of articles online and they vary saying yes and no. Just like to hear some opinions

Every player rated over 2000 that I've ever known has been very intelligent, so if you're truly dumb you're not going to go far. But I don't believe it's necessary to have a high IQ to be a GM. It's a peculiar talent.

What I'm saying is that there's an IQ minimum but GMs are not necessarily super smart compared to other good players.

You need to have a gifted memory to be a GREAT player. But otherwise no, intelligence has nothing to do with chess.

To be great at chess, obsession is the most important, not intelligence. How coukd you call someone intelligent who neglects school, jobs and even meal time.
