Don't try to get girls to play Chess.

But that is soo generalised. Many females are mathematical. What's wrong with encouraging females to play? If they like it, great. If they play it and don't, great for them. Why can't we encourage other communities to play chess? It's not doing any harm. Many may like it once the try. If they don't, no harm done, if they do, then some good has been done.
I was a very mathematical and geeky child, and so those around me suggested I learned chess. I loved it, but if after five games I didn't like it, then I wouldn't have been forced to keep playing. It's when the parents force the child to play is what annoys me.
I'd say one of the main reasons there is only one woman in the top 100 is because less of them play. I'd still say that, on average, men may be slightly more mathematical, I think if the exact same amount of women and men played chess, then I'd imagine there would be 40-50 women in the top 100.
I do agree that forcing children to play and, if they hate it, not letting them quit, is wrong. But I feel we should let all people have a go.
About women getting chess scholarships if they have lower ratings, that's a more thought provoking issue. I'm not sure about my opinions on that, but I'd sway slightly towards keeping it.
