Doping in Chess

These idiot's are always after people who are not harming anyone. Drug testing Lev Aronian!!!!!!!!!! wtf!!!!

They should be drug testing those aholes who caused the global financial meltdown. And psychological tests too!! People lost houses and jobs!!!

Even with Lance Armstrong they stripped him of his title and prize money. The bankers were rewarded with billions, which they immediately used to pay bonuses to themselves.

Billyblatt,

I understand your feelings. In "the real world" it seems that the bad guys always walk away with a bag full of other people's money...and are usually dressed in suits. The problem is that the "well healed" are all connected to each other. "White-collar crime" is like the proverbial iceberg.

Lots of things dont belong in the olympics. Chess is one of them.

The Olympics are for sports. If chess is a sport, so is knitting. You can argue it was different in Ancient Greece (poetry and drama competitions etc.), but that's the way it is now.

If Olympics officials convinced FIDE that they would get chess in the Olympics if it had drug testing and stuff, they must be having a good laugh at how gullible FIDE officials are. The most proable is that FIDE decided for whatever reason that drug testing was needed and found a lousy excuse to do so ("hey, we need it to get to the Olympics").

The real problem of getting chess into the Olympics is "lack of popularity". There are only so many events that can be showcased...and of course those with the most following will earn the greatest advertising dollars, and thus an available position. Sorry chess, but there are far more popular sports lined up for years, hoping for a turn.

But is there really any drug that could take your chess to a higher level during a chessgame ?

Check jesters big post on page 2. He wrote up a whole list of them.

I don't think chess is less popular as a hobby than say curling. But it certainly is less fun to watch.

Chess does not belong to FIDE. People would play with or without FIDE. They have no right to test anyone unless they give a "reasoned decision". No wonder Kasparov left their bs.

No. I have heard he had dropped from 65 kg to 45 kg.

65 kg - 45 kg = 20 kg

Right?

No, but tournaments with prizes do.

They would not have media coverage, heated rooms, etc. without FIDE (or any equivalent of it).

And FIDE now has not much to do with what it was when Kasparov was in conflict with them...

These guys are playing for hundreds of thousands of dollars, some make millions in their career. Why shouldn't they be tested, as most other athletes are?

Whether or not chess is a sport is quite difficult to decide really. Just because you are not breaking a sweat, doesn't mean it is not physically and mentally draining.

I am very much of the opinion that chess should not be an olympic event though. While they're at it, I could suggest another few that should be bumped off the list as well.  Curling gotta go, synchronised swimming, anything with a horse, anything with a gun (unless they are shooting curlers).....the list goes on.

I think the Olympics should be reserved for truly (human) physical competition. That doesn't mean I dismiss chess as a sport (or any of the others...Well maybe Dressage) but, in my opinion, the olympics is not about this type of event.

You mean, you would prefer to have wrestling but not synchronized swimming ?

How retrograde and conservative you are !

It's dancing under water. Sure, it takes fitness, strength and coordination (and I certainly couldn't do it) but I don't think it should be an olympic sport.

The same applies to street dancing, should we let the cast of Step Up 2 into the olympics as well?

GenghisCant

We might hear the judges say.....'Oh snap. France just got serrrvvved!'

Yes, of course !

Ok, I stop the joke now, but all of this has still more reasons to be in the Olympics than chess - which gives an idea of whether chess should or not be in.

Who wants to pay top dollars to watch the worlds best intentionally draw the game an laugh to the bank...If you believe there is money to draw to the sport then you should consider how many "free" accounts there are in all online chess communities..Everyone wants to earn money in chess but whos going to be the first to step up an pay out?

Pre-arranged matches are in minority.
