Dopping in chess. Does it exist?
Is it possible?

NikkiLikeChikki
There is no testing and certain medications, especially those that are prescribed for attention deficit disorder, ha e been proven to increase concentration.

So a banned substance works but is not tested for. It’s like steroids and body building. What do you think?

FIDE make antidopping tests since 1999.

Magnus Carlsen says that anti-dopping test for chess is an anoying thing.

I don't know if a efficient drug already exists.
There are some drugs for lack of attention, sometimes used for psychic disturbances .

In my time of college many people used to take and drink "guarana" (Paullinia cupana), a plant native from Brazil, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela. This plant left them sleepless and kept them active to study at night.  It is not recommended because  brain damage can  occur.

Thanks God, I never used it.

How do you know? Maybe you did use the stuff in college and you just can’t remember it. (Kidding) I do understand the drive that causes some to seek that “edge” and push the envelope, but if i tried that stuff… Man, I’d just make better, well-calculated, and more thoughtful blunders. Guaranteed.

One word: Modafinil

It exists. It is possible. FIDE tests for it. Modafinil is one of the banned substances.

Testing is very limited. Only the top 80 men and top 5 women are ever tested. The USCF does not test.

You don’t think there aren’t people who need that one norm or just a few rating points to get that title often use PEDs? Really? Honestly? They have been working super hard for years and they hear some pills will give them an edge and they will never be caught… and nobody does it? Ridiculous. There are probably a lot of people who would use PEDs just to get up their chess.com rating.

Yurinclez2

when will all chess players realize chess isn't a sport. that is why drugs are not really helpful.

EscherehcsE

Well, just skimming the Wikipedia entry for modafinil, I don't get the impression that it's any magic bullet as a cognitive enhancer. But I guess it would definitely lighten your wallet...

but yeah, I'm sure there are believers who dope in chess.

Problem is, not all stages of the game demand the same type of enhanced abilities.

Hmm, it doesn't seem fair that you get penalized for adding extra letters...

I'd be shocked if there are 0 people using certain drugs before their games especially when money is involved in the prize fund. Interestingly chess has a history of players who were into downer substances that absolutely made them worse. Morphine and alcohol being two prime examples. Obviously uppers are what you want if you want to play better. Amphetamines are the prime illicit examples. But anybody wanna talk about tobacco and caffeine? 100% guarantee both of those will improve your play. Oh but they're legal so less interesting to most people...

OneThousandEightHundred18

Cannabis will not help you play better but you might have more fun.... Trust me on this one i have a lot of personal experience lmao

I have never dopped or dapped.

Yes it exists and I think there should be stricter rules to test people and to discourage it
