Draw as result in match of teams

Draw as result in match of teams (groups).

How do you think? Is it correct when result of match between teams (groups) (where plenty players struggle independently in relation to each other) depends on casual accident? E.g. http://www.chess.com/groups/team_match.html?id=72468

Wallyjack's Premium Members Group vs. TEAM EUROPE 193 | 194 (amount of boards is 194).

When such system of points is used draw becomes almost impossible result. Therefore it becomes difficult to determine exactly strength of every team. E.g. leader who wins easy and another leader who wins with plenty difficulties become equal until they play with each other. Maybe it is better to make probability of draw much higher. For example, to fix draw when winning team did not take even 60% of points of match (to get even 1.5 times more points than opponent losing team). 6:4 -- victory. 5,5:4,5 -- draw. 59,5:40,5 -- draw. 60:40 -- victory. It is more comfortable to count whole numbers than ratio. Therefore victory can be appreciated as 2 points and draw as 1 point. Or it is possible to make like in soccer. Victory is appreciated as 3 points. Draw is appreciated merely 1. In last case convincing victory will be especially highly appreciated and will make more entertainment matches.

I believe 2 for wins and 1 for draws would be reasonable.

Also 3 for wins and 1 for draws is a realstic choise.

I believe the best would be if it was possible for the group leaders to choose wheter of to apply on the single matches, just like as we can set the speed, rating ranges, etc.

If ratio 3:2 is accepted it means that winner should win on the average though 1 time per 5 games not losing each of other 4 games.

Also I thought about size of team. It should be no less than 5 to make result trustworthy statistically (amount of retrieval in statistics agreed to be no less than 5).

I would disagree if we count a score 194:193 as a draw, because this is what is wonderful in the team games - every point may become critically important, and you WANT to score more than your opponents. No, the team that scores even a single game more - should get more points.

On the other hand, it is boring and unfair when a strong team (for example, Russia :) ) meets some weaker one. Then, if we definitely know that we are going to score more - where is a challenge?

I think, there is a way to make team games more challenging if in addition to a usual win/loose result (even by a single game) we add an extra cathegory - decisive victory (and, correspondignly, utter defeat). For example:

1. Decisive victory: 60% games and more. The team receives 3 points
2. Regular victory: >50% games. The team receives 2 points
3. Draw (rare): =50%. Both teams receive 1 point
4. Regular defeat: >40%. The team receives 1 point
5. Utter defeat: <=40%. The team receives 0 points

Such a system would make even unequal meetings more fair and challenging.

And noone will have intention to make contractual drawish match 50% because both get only 2 points in sum. Great thank you, G0rynich, for your wonderful proposal!

И никто не захочет сыграть договорной ничейный матч, потому что в сумме будет получено лишь два очка. Большое спасибо за замечательное предложение!

That's a very interesting suggestion that's worth considering.

Regarding G0rynich proposal:
This somewhat (a little) reminds of the tie-break system we're using in the EL-tourney...

Haven't there already been some GM tournaments played in which a draw counts as one point and a win counts as three? It seems to me that I read something about that, a month or so ago.

... or maybe I'm just going senile at last.

The London Classic has been using the 3-1-0 scoring system and also the Bilboa Chess Festival (currently going) uses the 3-1-0 scoring system. Probably some others too but those are two major tournaments that use that system. I think the idea is brilliant as it allows possible come backs to more easily occur and mostly to encourage more spirited and hopefully decisive games. I hope it becomes the normal chess scoring in the future.

I saw the first 20 players to look at the games and found >>> 90% of cheaters on TEAM EUROPE on that match!!! amazing!!!
