I came back to Chess.com because they were holding online rated tournies. I discovered the USCF gives a title at 2000, and that became my goal.
I was 51 years old and sub 1400 so...
I did some work on my own, but wasn't really getting anywhere, so I got a chess coach. Now, at 52 my rating is 1540ish. I've learned some openings, worked a lot of tactics, (seriously, a lot of tactics. A LOT a lot) studied some endgames, etc and I AM showing good improvement.
It's probably not enough, tho.
It's the timeframe, see. I have to get to the skill level and THEN play at least 300 games in rated tournies, (probably MANY more) and that's a couple years worth of work. Realistically I'll be 55 by the time I've any real chance of having the games under my belt, and that's assuming everything goes quickly.
Probably not possible, I suppose.
Worth a shot, tho.
Excuse me, I have to go day dream about posting a picture of my title on Facebook.
