Drop in chess play

I've been playing nearly everyday now, but I've gotten considerbly worse in the last couple weeks.  I've dropped over 200 points and now I'm getting beaten by 900 level players like I'm nothing.  It's really frustrating and I almost want to give up the game.  Before I used to be able to come up with good strategy but now I'm just struck by how little openings there are.  Also, it seems strange, but I feel like players are much better for their rating that I remember there being.  I'm wondering if I'm playing too much.  Has anyone had this happen to them?

Totally.

I read you.

It is so awkward, but the same goes for me.

Sure, I bet my level is not so good as yours. But sometimes I feel the same wayz.

One thing I try to do in order not to give up such good game is to study chess books for a while instead of playing.

But, really, I get the same feeling and its frustrating.

I agree fully. The key is to look at the game from a different angle. If you view it from the same perspective your vision will get narrower and narrower, you will be making the same mistakes over and over again without hope for improvement.

+1 Also try to experiment with all kinds of openings, even crazy gambit. This way you'll learn to play all kinds of positions. While you play insignificative games on the internet, you shouldn't try only to win but mostly to learn. For example, although you might not like it, the French Defence teaches you how to play positions with a blocked center etc.

After reading your post, I was betting that you were playing 30/0 games. I see you're playing 10/0.  I'm no expert, obvioulsy, but fast games will scramble your brain if you're trying to improve.

It happened to me playing 30/0. I haven't played a 30/0 game in a few weeks. I'm taking advantage of the Tactics Trainer while on my free 30 days. I found a local chess club and I'm reading a book. I've been playing the computer instead of playing live, fast games.

I can't say, yet, how much I have improved until I play more OTB games, but I definitely feel like my brain is returning to normal.

Good luck.
