What are you? some sort of funny man? mmm ya a funny man?
e4 the best opening by far
with the patch on one eye and some super hot jalapeno juice in the other. then we will be about even.
e4 is not an opening. If it was really the best opening move it is weird why not all top players play it.
Bobby Fischer once annotated a game ....1. E4 as "best by test". He was right.
Guyala Breyer, an early hyper-modern theorist of the 1920's , did the same, annotating a game with 1. e4:
"With this premature bid for control of the center, white's game is in it's death throws".
Or something like that, it was obviously very tongue-in-cheek and meant as a joke.

Let's face it, we build computers that play chess better than any master, this is fact. Why should we then waste our time studying imperfect master games when we can study perfect computer games? You get my drift? What do you think Joe?
This is true and I agree.
I also agree that e4, and it's counterpart e5, is the best opening (for both black and white).
Opening with d4, on the other hand, just plain stinks, is boring and weak.

@Benzodiazepine: Give one example of a "boring and weak" opening that starts with d4
Opening: Queens Gambit (QG)
Flavours: accepted, declined, you-name-it...
Overall a very bad opening. Especially for white who initiates it.
Because of the many wonderful things it does, e4 is the supreme opening move for white. Even deep Blue would choose e4 above all others. Human competition has grown stale and boring. We should look to computer generated games on both sides, Let's face it, we build computers that play chess better than any master, this is fact. Why should we then waste our time studying imperfect master games when we can study perfect computer games? You get my drift? What do you think Joe?
