There was no date on this article, so I'm not sure it will work with El Capitan. Also, it was quite complex as the original terminal command did not work and I was skeptical about using the second command. Have you tried this? My PGNs open with my text editor, which is good. It is only the icon association I wish to remove.

I have access to a MAC but haven't messed with one at that level in a while. I just tried to find a method to remove it.
How do I get rid of the exachess icon. I deleted exachess from my mac, as well as all related files I could find. But now all my PGNs show up with that ugly exachess icon. Any way to get rid of it?
