Examples of positional jewels

Hello everyone,

I'd like to ask for examples of great positional masterpieces. Preferably classic games, such as Short-Timman 1991 (to give just one example).

I'm looking for games which teach positional concepts. For example, Short's game teaches how to play with more space and attack weak squares in a fianchetto.

The problem I have with classic games collections is that most of them involve some amazing tactical combination. I want games which emphasise strategical play.

Thank you, and looking forward to your suggestions

Look through Karpov's games and you'll see some positional games.

Thanks, but I am asking for some concrete examples of positional classic masterpieces, like Fischer-Gadia etc.

The question immediately brings to mind the idea of a positional Queen sacrifice - this is my favourite example (Nezhmetdinov vs Chernikov, 1962).  Nezhy ends up with a Bishop and Knight for the Queen, but look at how much more coordinated his pieces are.  Chernikov sacrificed his Knight before capturing the Queen simply because of how harmonious the Knight on c3 is with the other pieces!

Here's an amazing position from Harper vs. Zuk, 1971 happy.png

That's more tactical than positional but still a good move.

Here is the above game in full, with some light commentary:

And here is one of my favourite games.  I received a copy of Chessmaster 8000 at a pivotal period in my chess growth, and Josh Waitzkin's annotated games were my favourite thing ever (they probably inspired my own youtube videos a decade or so later).  Here is my favourite.  I think you can find YouTube videos of his analysis if you dig:

Rashid Nezhmetdinov is a true genius. Who would even consider Qxf6 let alone play it.

I haven't checked with engine, but it is these games like the one between Nezhmetdinov and Chernov which make me suspect any game between two soviet players. I think there was rampant match fixing during that time. That crazy queen sac and you win, come on!!!

I can give you dozens

The game Pilnik-Geller shows how to create an outpost and how to exploit a majority.

The game Furman -Kholmov is perfect to understand how a weakness can help you exploit a q-side majority and create a passed pawn.

Would you be so kind to provide some more examples? Thank you
