Yes, although I recommend beginners stay away from such trades. You have to look at the position more carefully with minor pieces.

Two minor pieces are USUALLY better than a rook. There are some endgame exceptions but most of the time it's a bad idea to trade a rook for two minor pieces in the middlegame. A rook and a pawn is also usually worse than two minor pieces too.
Think of it this way: A rook, even with it's great mobility, can't move around too much in the middlegame. The two pieces will usually be able to defend whatever the rook can attack and the two pieces also have better attacking chances, since they are two seperate units. Someone can probably explain it better than me.
